Today, August 15, 2016, marks a success on the rescue of Grand, the wounded black dog. We assumed the cause of his wound was due to hot water poured into his body, or for whatever reason of the abuse done against him it’s quite severe that not only his skin has been damaged but it penetrates deeper into the underlying tissues. Few days ago, we received a report from concerned animal lover, Akhilesh Muralidhar, that he saw an injured dog around Daro area. We at Combined Animal Rescue Endeavour (CARE) immediately responded asking for at least to take a photo of the dog so we can immediately recognize it. We’re grateful of the reporter for he successfully forwarded us a photo and a video of the dog. On rescuing a wounded dog, some tips should be considered:

Last August 9, 2016, at 88th Street Internet Café near Silliman University, Dumaguete City, we received a report from our consistent animal welfare correspondent, Faye Leduna, that there was a kitten almost squeezed by an the café’s accordion door. The hard part of the rescue was that if only there was no glass hindering in front the kitten then it should have been easier to get her from where she situated. Thanks to ma’am Faye and the staff of the café for the success of the rescue. We named the female kitten “Sam” of which she is currently infected with sore eyes, yet it is now healing. Lucky we still have Babushka in the shelter, the big cat, for she serves like a Momma to Sam. They blend well together and live like a Mother-and-child.
According to petfinder, most experts recommend to feed your dog twice a day. Their meal time should be well separated like one in the morning, and another meal in the evening. At CARE Animal Shelter, we used to give their breakfast at around 8 o’clock in the morning after all the cleaning has been done, then the second meal will be around 5 o’clock in the afternoon. We are supposed to give their second meal during evening time but since we are still having trouble on electricity on our temporary shelter, this is why we have it at 5. The morning meal typically consists of rice and viand like a usual human meal. We use fish/meat and paired with vegetables (e.g. malunggay) for the viand. The dog foods, which mostly come from donations, are the one we give on their second meal. Not to mention, a couple of minutes after each meal, we make sure to provide them adequate water to avoid any dehydration and kidney related issues. For puppies under three months, we used to give them special meal in between as advised by concerned veterinarian, which is if the puppies have no Momma dog with them. However, in the case of Ellah, one of our rescues, we consider her natural milk as the special meal of her puppies.
It’s overwhelming and compelling to feed 23 awesome creatures inside CARE shelter now. With the help of Ate Gang2x and the food donors, we are thankful as our beloved rescues have been given the nutrients they deserve daily. |
